THANK YOU Bellingham Yacht Club!
Bellingham Yacht Club (BYC) has generously funded a full-ride scholarship – including tuition, fees and equipment – for a student wanting to pursue an Associate in Applied Science degree in Fisheries Technology at Bellingham Technical College. This scholarship covers all costs associated with the two-year program; however, to qualify a student must have utilized the services of a local Whatcom County relief organization such as: Lighthouse Mission, Lydia Place, Brigid Collins, Opportunity Council, or Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Service.
This unique partnership leverages the resources of three community organizations working to make Whatcom County a better place to live for all our residents. This opportunity would not be possible without the generosity of the Bellingham Yacht Club’s Sink the Dinghy fundraising committee and all the generous donors to the fund.
We are pleased to announce Parris Johnson has been awarded the 2010/2011 BYC Scholarship. Parris is a graduate of the Light House Mission’s New Life Program. Originally from New York State, Parris is also veteran of the US Airforce and has been living in Bellingham for the past year and a half. Parris is honored and extremely grateful for Bellingham Yacht Club’s generosity; his life is certain to be transformed because of it! He’s eager to get started and will begin working on his general education core classes in Spring 2010.
Graduates of the Fisheries Technology program often secure jobs working for the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, US Department of Fish & Wildlife Service, private hatcheries, shell fish farms, private net pen operators, or with private, state or local scientific organizations. The average starting wage for a graduate from the Fisheries program is $15.21 with wage potential of $24.86.
We send a BIG thank you to the Bellingham Yacht Club and all the donors who contributed to this fund!
